W Three of the state's prominent plastics companies tell their tales. hen you think of Pennsylvania, think of plastics. At nearly $4 billion, the state's plastics and rubber products manufacturing industry ranks 5th in the US. The recent surge in availability of Natural Gas Liquids (NGLs) Marcellus Shale gas is drastically lowering the cost of plastics production and companies across the state are benefting. The abundance of gas has lowered wholesale electricity prices more than 40 percent. The industry employs more than 36,000 people and the state is littered with plastics companies producing everything from packaging to raw materials. Three of the state's most prominent plastics companies shared with Pennsylvania Economic Quarterly their experiences producing plastic in a state that's quickly becoming the ideal place for it.
